On Tuesday, July 17, 2018, Chicago’s STEM Ecosystem will gather for the Summer 2018 Convening of the Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative (STEM Co-op). The meeting location is to be announced.
Leaders and members of the STEM Co-op are gearing up to move their efforts of Affinity Group Prioritization with these 3 groups at the top of their commitment:
1) Early Childhood;
2) Connecting in-school and out-of-school learning; and
3) Professional Development.
Family + Community Engagement is the overarching element of all Affinity Groups and will not be considered a separate prioritization.
The follow-up leading to the Summer Convening will be based on Demonstration Communities and how the STEM Co-op can participate in the idea of using these demonstration communities, particularly inclusive of the work in the Austin neighborhood. However, the STEM Co-op isn’t dedicated strictly to Austin. The idea of demonstration communities is a priority for the Co-op in response to the recognition that the Co-op hasn’t been able to track city-wide impact.
The STEM Co-op is learning how we are able to build our work as a collective through a particular community, in early childhood, in school learning, out of school learning and how they connect, and in community based work consisting of professional development.
We look forward to our Summer Convening in July!
