STEM in the CHI

STEM in the CHI builds bridges for students to experience Chicago’s premier science organizations during school breaks. The Chicago STEM Pathways Cooperative accepts curriculum submissions from the STEM giants across the city to develop engaging and meaningful STEM camps for young people. Organizations such as Project Exploration, the Chicago Park District, and Evanston YMCA have participated as implementation partners, allowing us to share STEM with up to 2,000 campers per year. In 2020, City Colleges of Chicago, Northwestern University, and Project Exploration partnered to launch STEAMbassadors, a mentorship workforce initiative to engage college students in strengthening and sharing their STEAM passions with youth from their communities. STEAMbassadors supports young adults, 18-24, in transitioning from participants to practitioners, as they develop workplace skills, identify and deepen STEAM interests, and strengthen their identity as civic leaders.
