Chicago Student Invention Convention

The Chicago Student Invention Convention (and soon to be Illinois Student Invention Convention is part of Chicago Innovation’s commitment to making innovation accessible for everyone. Chicago Innovation’s mission is to empower the Chicago innovation ecosystem by educating, connection, and celebrating innovators.

We are an invention program that inspires K-8 students through early exposure to applied STEM and teaches them how to innovate.

Educating: We train in-school or out-of-school-time educators using our free, flexible, NGSS-aligned curriculum that guides students to identify a problem and create an original invention and prototype to solve it.

Connecting: We extend learning through our mentorship track that brings industry professionals into the classroom. Strong community partnerships offer opportunities to engage in specialized workshops, field trips, and other direct services.

Celebrating: Students have the chance to compete in a series of escalating competitions at the regional, national, and global level. Some winners see their inventions get patented and prototyped; others connect to industry leaders to take their ideas to the next level. All students hear feedback from invention judges who provide constructive comments and help them envision themselves as future problem-solvers.
